Senior Capping Analysis

My senior capping project was an independent study consisting of a research paper, various focus groups, a powerpoint and presentation portion. I chose to focus on typography and the effect that typography has on branding.

For my senior capping project, I analyzed typography and the impact that it has on the branding of certain companies in the event planning field. I took into account color theory, differing typographic styles, and the future of logo development. Throughout my research I conducted various focus groups to determine consumer insights regarding their willingness to use certain companies and services.

The abstract of my final research paper can be found below.

Abstract
This paper will focus mainly on the effect that a selection of typographic logos have on branding and marketability for a selection of wedding planning companies based in the New York and Connecticut area. There are five companies under analysis, and the outcome of my research, and the conducting of focus groups, will determine which logos I will redesign for the improvement of the company’s overall brand imagery success. Typography and its presentation have proven to influence the thought processes of people when considering the purchase of a product or service. The literature reviewed discusses the history and evolution of typography, the necessary elements of a sound logo and the anticipated design trends for 2017. Observations and analyses were explored through focus groups to gather insight into potential consumer thoughts and opinions when observing certain wedding planning logos.

The five companies analyzed were:
David Monn, LLC
A Polished Plan
Amy Champagne Events
A Jubilee Event
Eventique

At the conclusion of my project, I recreated the logos for Amy Champagne Events and A Polished Plan as you can see from the above poster.

Strong typographical logos are essential to the success of any company, but in particular, to wedding planning companies. Awareness of target audience, and your own company’s culture is essential throughout the logo development process and determines how your company is remembered and perceived. While David Monn, LLC, A Jubilee Event and Eventique directly communicate with their audience, Amy Champagne Events and A Polished Plan could improve upon their presentation and marketability of their brand. The best logos are created after thorough internal examination into the company’s culture, mission and mindset. Typography is a powerful art form in that it can greatly enrich or ruin a creative idea as demonstrated with these logos. Therefore, it is necessary to be mindful of its influence and establish your brand positively.
